Great trails for hiking, running and biking in Evergreen

Alderfer/3 Sisters

Located in Evergreen, just south of the lake, is an incredible park with multiple groomed trails. Take the Evergreen Mountain trail for an easy 5 mile roundtrip hike to the top of Evergreen Mountain. Hike, run or bike in the summer, with options to snow shoe in the winter. The peak oversees Evergreen lake and into Conifer (from the top you can see my house at the base of Evergreen mountain!)

The opposite side of the park features several other trails ranging from gravel groomed trails to foot trails over the three sisters peaks.

Elephant Butte

Elephant Butte Trail, a 5 mile loop trail within the Alderfer/3 Sisters park, is an amazing hike up the mountain to the peak where you have a 360 view of all of the foothills - from Bergen to Evergreen to Conifer to Mt. Blue Sky. The last bit is fairly rocky and challenging (and I saw a mountain lion up there once) so take your time and go with a friend!

Bergen Peak

A 10 mile loop trail in Elk Meadow Park seems daunting but the hike is amazing. From wide-open prairie at the beginning (often with grazing elk) to a steep climb at the end, the payoff is the view of Evergreen from the peak. Take a snack and some water and enjoy the pine trees along the way.

Upper Maxwell Falls Trail

This is the easiest way to see a water fall! Located between Evergreen and Confier, there are two entrances to Maxwell Falls. The upper entrance is the best kept secret as it’s less crowded and it’s only 2.4 miles to the water fall, all along a creek so it’s super fun and easy for kids!

Evergreen Lake Trail

What’s better than a walk around the lake? Only a 1.4 mile loop you can easily walk it alone or with a group, including children. Start at the lake house and walk all the way around, including a stop at the water fall or even venture over for ice cream down town. You can walk it year-round (though winter can get slippery in parts).
